What Does Your Home Insurance Cover?

A "Peril" is a certain risk that may affect or damage your home. This is an insurance industry term, but basically describes the list of mishaps you're protected against. Here's a look at what the Insurance Information Institute says are some of the most common perils covered by a typical homeowners insurance policy:

  • Fire and smoke

  • Lightning strikes

  • Windstorms and hail

  • Explosion

  • Vandalism and malicious mischief

  • Damage from an aircraft, car or vehicle

  • Theft

  • Falling objects

Some Things That Could Affect Your Insurance Coverage & Premium
